60 Since this publication started printing, the world of uncrewed ground vehicles (UGVs) has changed from a few SMEs and Google to hundreds of successful OEMs and integrators. Advancements in technology and the availability of high-end electronics for intelligent navigation without GNSS have made uncrewed robotic systems a valuable addition to many industries. However, intelligent vehicles are nothing without the intelligent application and deployment of such technology. Fortunately, many UGV manufacturers are not just developing technology for technology’s sake, but for some carefully identified niche applications, with specific tailoring and tuning of vehicles for the nuances of each use-case, often thanks to close collaborations or discussions with customers. A handful of examples follow.
