These may include increasingly higher-end edge computers or cloud computing for real-time data processing and decisionmaking, as well as 5G and other advanced forms of data link for swarms to internally communicate critical information and potentially decide on formations, task allocations or rotations as a group. Naturally, the use of these technologies will be influenced by the various bodies within the FAA, EASA and other aviation regulators tasked with defining safety standards on comms systems, cloud computing, AI and more across the ecosystem of current and future autopilot components, as is necessary for ensuring the advent of UAVs either leaves humanity’s skies and cities as safe as they were before or makes them safer still.
