61 Kreuznach lenses ranging from 28 to 240 mm, while the iXA-R series of cameras use specially designed Rodenstock lenses in 40, 50 and 70 mm focal lengths. Northwest UAV is the largest UAV propulsion systems supplier in the US, owner Chris Harris told us. His company supplies mostly two-stroke engines, which are designed and developed in-house and which can be serviced at its base near Portland, Oregon, or in the field using user- friendly technology it has developed. Harris explained that his company’s design and development capabilities are enhanced by exploiting the resources of Northwest Rapid, a company owned by his wife Heather, which specialises in additive manufacturing (AM). On its booth next to Northwest, Chantelle Sims showed UST some clever new technology in the form of a Teflon-coated nylon part produced for an aerospace project. Nylon 11 melts at 174 C, making it hugely difficult to coat. Nevertheless, Sims explained, Northwest Rapid has found a means to bake on a Teflon coating without affecting the substrate, solving a specific problem faced by a customer. The base item was produced using an EOS 390 AM machine. The company has other EOS machines, to cover a range of AM materials. Robert Hambrick explained that he created AutonomouStuff after identifying a gap in the supply chain for technology required for self-driving cars. There are currently high-profile projects by the likes of Google and major car manufacturers but the drive (to coin a pun) to embrace the technology goes far wider. AutonomouStuff serves customers that lack the clout of a major corporation. Hambrick said his company is building relationships with suppliers of the necessary hardware and software, to serve customers such as those developing autonomous vehicles for automotive, mining, military, agriculture, aerospace and maritime applications. He added that AUVSI Unmanned Systems 2015 | Show report Unmanned Systems Technology | Summer 2015 Phase One’s iXU 180 takes a choice of six lenses, from 28 to 240 mm A UAV muffler produced by Northwest Rapid using AM Nylon 11 melts at 174 C, making it hugely difficult to coat, but a means has been found to bake on a Teflon coating without affecting the substrate
