74 L iving up to its reputation as one of Asia’s greatest burgeoning technology hubs, Singapore’s Suntec Convention Centre was host in early September to the second annual Commercial UAV Show Asia. It brought more than 3000 visitors together with dozens of unmanned vehicle manufacturers, component suppliers, operators and enthusiasts from all over the world to see the latest innovative unmanned solutions for the public and private sectors. The show marked the first public appearance of Swiss UAV manufacturer senseFly’s newest craft, the eBee SQ, which was announced on August 31. The 1.2 kg fixed-wing craft joins the other UAVs from senseFly and its parent company Parrot, which offers aerial photography and 3D mapping capabilities for real estate and construction companies. The eBee SQ is intended to combine precise crops imaging with large ground coverage for agricultural end-users. Central to this capability is the integration of Parrot’s Sequoia 1.2 MP multi-spectral camera, which includes a 16 MP RBG camera for accurate colour imaging, and can also operate across red, green, near-infrared (NIR) and red- edge (RE) bands to distinguish between healthy vegetation and stressed plants, and to inspect soil quality. Troy Hittle from senseFly said, “NIR and RE are not visible to the naked eye, and can be used to create indeces known as NDVI and NDRE, which highlight Rory Jackson reports from Singapore – the Lion City – with highlights of this recent exhibition aimed at both the public and private sectors Roaring trade October/November 2016 | Unmanned Systems Technology The show drew a host of manufacturers and operators from around the world
