Summary As the UAV industry matures, and economies of scale become easier to achieve, more UAV-specific engine ancillaries are likely to become available, and they will be able to exploit more of the technologies developed for other high-performance applications. Many manned aircraft these days rely on what is called Full Authority Digital Engine Control, while the automotive industry has moved to engines managed by ECUs using software maps and closed-loop feedback from multiple sensors – both of which are open to UAVs, and the subjects of future articles.
