Intergeo, CUAV Expo and CUAV Show | Show reports FlightWave Aerospace Systems and MAPIR (a subsidiary of Peau Productions) announced a collaboration to install the latter’s Kernel camera system aboard the former’s Edge VTOL- transition-capable UAS. “The flight controller in FlightWave’s UAV is a Pixhawk 2.1, and our cameras are designed to be used with that controller, or any controller that uses similar signals,” Nolan Ramseyer said. “For instance, we’re using the newer UAVCAN bus system to provide automatic geotagging in the middle of an exposure during image capture.” MAPIR’s system can also use USB control for pulling images onto the onboard Intel Edison computer in the FlightWave’s fuselage. The system can also use PWM triggering and exposure moment detection, which is compatible with PPK processing. Each Kernel camera is powered by a Freescale i.MX 6 dual-core ARM Cortex A9 1.2 GHz processor, and can be configured with one of two sensors: a multi-spectral 3.2 MP mono sensor with various filter transmission bands, or a higher resolution 14.4 MP RGB sensor. The sensors can be arranged in flat multi-spectral arrays or curved, high- resolution metric configurations.
