Karsten Schudt told us of Sky Power, a new company that will service 3W International in the wake of financial difficulties faced by 3W Modellmotoren and what was perceived as a lack of technical support from the latter. 3W International was created to supply engines to the UAV and UGV markets, and it subcontracted manufacture to 3W Modellmotoren, whereas now it is establishing its own production facilities. At the same time, Sky Power will develop 3W designs for unmanned systems. “Sky Power is the performance partner of 3W International,” Schudt explained. He noted that it has already devised an upgrade to the 3W 110xi b2 TS HFE FI profiled in UST 9 (August/ September 2016) that improves fuel efficiency by up to 25%. “Sky Power will be improving all existing 3W International UAV/UGV engines,” he added, “primarily by improving the ignition, injection and engine control systems for reduced fuel consumption and higher efficiency.” The 3W International/Sky Power UAV/UGV engine range now includes two rotary engines. We noted in our 2017 Xponential report ( UST 14, June/ July 2017) the arrival of 3W’s first rotary, a 180 cc single-rotor unit producing 28 bhp or 35 bhp when married to a motor/generator unit with kinetic energy recovery as in UGV use. Sky Power has also developed a 70 bhp, 480 cc twin-rotor unit. It can be configured as a series hybrid in conjunction with one or two motor/ generator units; in the latter case, one can be fitted at each end of the eccentric shaft assembly. 3W International/Sky Power’s new 480 cc twin-rotor
