78 T he Celtic Manor Resort, in south-east Wales, is well- known in the professional golf world for hosting numerous major tournaments, including the 2000 PGA Cup, the 2010 Ryder Cup and most recently the 2020 ISPS Handa Wales Open, which forms part of the PGA European Tour and took place in August last year. As we know only too well, the vast majority of sporting events have been either heavily disrupted or cancelled owing to the need to prevent the spread of Covid-19. However, the Wales Open was revamped so that it could be held safely. Rethinking how to run the tournament provided organisers with the opportunity to exploit new technologies.
