Platform one Advanced Motion Controls has developed a micro-sized FlexPro servo drive with a 60 A continuous output for autonomous ground vehicles (writes Nick Flaherty). The 60 A rating is one-third higher than the company’s previous models of the same size, giving it the highest power density in the company’s range. It can be mounted on a PCB or embedded in a machine, and take a 10-55 VDC input. It uses an architecture called Integrated Motion Platform and Control Technology that allows the circuit boards to be stacked, taking into account the placement of high-power components to provide the higher power density. The footprint of 38.1 x 25.4 mm for a PCB Mount version allows up to four of them to fit within the area of a standard business card. It is intended to be soldered directly to a PCB for small UGV designs. The machine embedded form factor has a compact interface card to the PCB Mount version to allow for direct connections with power and signal wires.  The form factor makes it easy to install servo drives anywhere in an AGV. For evaluation, a development board form factor has the PCB Mount board on a larger board populated with full- sized connectors with more spacing in between. This is suitable for proof- of-concept designs and for setting up experiments. The drives have EtherCAT, CANopen and RS-485/RS-232 comms interfaces, and provide incremental encoder, EnDat 2.2 and BISS C-mode feedback control modes to manage the torque, velocity and position of the motors. Micro servo drive stacks up Ground vehicles Stacking the circuit boards is key to providing the servo drive with a 60 A rating ENABLING TECHNOLOGY EVERYWHERE Harwin’s connector products are proven to perform in extreme conditions, with shock, vibration and temperature range rigorously tested.
