Mayflower Autonomous Ship | Dossier thirds of the way towards the back is a mast for mounting the GNSS, radar, AIS, anemometers, and other sensors critical to the AI Captain autonomy engine supplied by Marine AI. A wide range of subsystems and compartments occupy the interior. At the front, inside the nose, is a cargo bay for payloads as well as a bow thruster for steering assistance. About 5 m behind the nose is a forward battery pack, a busbar arrangement and a diesel generator. This range extender system typically runs on biodiesel, with the main biodiesel tank sitting just behind the generator. Just past the main fuel tank is a secondary, rear battery pack as well as a starter battery for the generator, with two more biodiesel tanks – one designated as the port tank, the other starboard – behind. Continuing rearwards, a bulkhead separates this energy system’s section from the propulsion chamber beyond, and installed on the bulkhead is a battery AC-DC charger, a DC-AC inverter, and a regulator for the solar charging system. The propulsion chamber features two 20 kW electric motors (one atop the other, their power combined via a drive pulley assembly) driving a single propeller shaft. Port and starboard steering gears actuate an assembly that controls a rudder just beyond the propeller. This chamber also houses an isolation transformer and a 16 A fused switch. Naturally, the payload will change depending on mission participants and clients. To enable these changes, three hatches are installed on top of the main hull – a forward hatch about halfway between the nose and the mast, an aft hatch a third of the way from the mast to the stern, and a small aft step hatch near the rudder (so-called as it can be stepped on by technicians for stable access to the top deck). Since we wanted the ship’s main purpose to be a research platform, we knew we’d need a very big cargo bay for payloads and so on Perfect vision Anytime, Anywhere Customized to meet your requirements Geo features & Moving map Multi-target tracker & Moving target detection DST CONTROL - [email protected] - www.dst.se 888-321-9178 | 631-298-9179 [email protected] | ultramotion.com Cutchogue, NY • High performance linear servo actuator • Brushless DC control electronics built-in • Ultra reliable, contactless absolute position feedback • Hardened against shock, vibration, and liquid exposure • Lightweight, high power density • Multiple communication protocols supported including RS-422 serial, CAN, CANopen, RC PWM, 4-20 mA, and more A1 series: Standard Servo Cylinder servo cylinder A2 series: Industrial Servo Cylinder AU series: Subsea Servo Cylinder AM series: Ruggedized Servo Cylinder
