95 CES 2022 | Report Hesai Technology showcased its new automotive-grade Lidar sensor, the AT128, a directional long-range hybrid solid-state unit designed for performance, compact design and reliability in mass- production passenger and commercial vehicles being built for advanced ADAS or SAE Level 3+ autonomy. The AT128 is capable of a measurement frequency of more than 1.53 million points/ second (single return), enabling image- level resolutions, and it incorporates 128 high-power multi-junction VCSEL arrays for enabling 128-channel e-scanning. These design points are intended to circumvent the reliability and limited lifetime issues of high-speed 2D mechanical scanning Lidars, and to provide an unstitched 120 º horizontal FoV. The AT128 also has a range of up to 200 m at 10% reflectivity, with effective ground detection as far as 70 m. All its key components have been designed to meet AEC-Q and related standards, with more than 50 design validation tests conducted according to international OEM standards across electrical, mechanical, environmental, sealing, material and EMC guidelines. The AT128’s development is based on Hesai’s new-generation proprietary Lidar ASICs, which are designed to greatly simplify traditional assembly processes and increase manufacturing cost-efficiency and consistency in mass production. Li Auto, JiDU, HiPhi and Lotus are among its future users, with mass production of the sensor to begin this year. Hesai also unveiled its new QT128 short-range Lidar, which has a 105 º vertical FoV, and is anticipated as a key solution for blind spots and awareness of surroundings in SAE Level 4 applications such as robotaxis and robotrucks. It will begin mass production in Q1 2023. AI data services company Infiniq unveiled a range of novel autonomous driving and retail innovation technologies. One of the most immediately visible of them was a data collection vehicle equipped with multiple sensors including EO, IR, and Lidar systems for collecting high-quality data for autonomous driving developers, using sensor fusion technology to process the data and increase accuracy. Also on display was its MyCrowd AI data services platform for building high-quality datasets for AI training, including one-stop services for 2D and 3D data mapping, anonymising personal information, 3D annotation and data quality verification. Also, the company’s Wellid service for data anonymisation processes visual data to prevent it being recognised. Sensitive personal information such as faces and number plates can thereby be anonymised, which could greatly aid autonomous survey and inspection operators to comply with global privacy regulations such as GDPR, the AI Act, CCPA and CPRA. Arbe Robotics has integrated ‘free-space mapping’ functionality to its Imaging Radar perception stack using a SLAM-like algorithm built to identify driveable sections in vehicles’ surrounding environments, aggregate a map of those environments, and localise the vehicle within the map. The company says this is the first instance of an automotive radar contributing to free-space mapping, and that the Imaging Radar complements camera sensors in highly accurate autonomous driving applications with its ability to sense Doppler at long ranges and wide fields of view, sensing the environment in all weather, lighting and visibility conditions. Using its new algorithm, Arbe’s radar senses the unobstructed space in the environment around the vehicle, then analyses high-resolution data in all dimensions from all the targets in the FoV, including pedestrians, vehicles, buildings and trees, to yield a representation of the driveable sections. In addition, it can sense elevation in high resolution, distinguish stationary objects from dynamic ones, eliminate false radar alarms and resolve Doppler ambiguities.
